The tour dates section doesn't reflect every show, but it has several.
Just my thoughts very quickly on last night's (this morning's???) show.
JR (very eloquently) described events pretty much as I remember them
also. However, I was a bit more lucid than JR by about 12:30 or so!!!! =
:)
It was really fun to meet JR and his wife and Scott, taper =
extraordinaire.
As has already been mentioned, the opening act were quite good and
I might actually buy their album (which I believe will be out March =
10)...
I think the band was called "Luxx". In fact, I too managed to snag
one of the freebie singles cassettes at the door and I agree with =
JR...it's
a good listen.
By the time JBB came out onstage, we'd been there for about 4 hours and
we were ready. Those guys really rocked...the lead singer opened the =
show
by firing off the first words from "In the Evening"...the lights were =
down and
he screamed...."In the EEEEEEEEEEEEVening!!"...lgihts came up and the
band plowed right into "Custard Pie", I think...it may have been "Ramble
On"...it's not that I don't know the difference, however my memory is a =
bit
hazy...I do recall thinking that they sounded really GOOD. As I said,
both songs were great..."Ramble On" was VERY true to Zep's form and
was really nice. After these two tunes, the band launched into "Dancing
Days", which was quite good. From here they played 2 or 3 from their
latest album...around this time, the lead singer passed the mic to Jason
and he said a few words on how much his dad meant to him and how much
he is missed and he thanked the crowd for keeping the Zep tradition =
going,
etc...
I think at this point, they went into "Heartbreaker" which was great. =
The solos
were very good on this one. They also pulled off "TSRTS", a *great* jam =
on
"Communication Breakdown" that included a verse or two and some guitar
phrasing from "THe Girl I Love"...a nice surprise, also thrown into the =
jam was
the great middle section of "Dazed"...very faithfully reproduced. I also=
think
that at some point the guitarist did a minute or so from "Black Mountain
Side"....I remember thinking it sounded good. Also done was "Whole Lotta=
Love",
which sounded great...they were really on fire at this point. The =
guitarist
also managed to throw in a few minutes of Pink Floyd's "Shine on you =
crazy
diamond", which was also very well done.
I think that's all the Zep songs the band did...I'm probably forgetting =
one or
two...they did also do "Wait For You", which I happen to like...and =
didn't
really expect to hear. And they also did another 2 or so songs from =
their
latest album...
All in all...was WELL worth 7 bucks (well..plus the huge amount at the =
bar..we
were there at least 5-6 hours after all....). THe set was right at 2 =
hours which
was cool.
In closing, I can say that I was not sure what to expect upon meeting =
JR...he
is from Kentucky afterall....heh heh...I can make statements like that =
because
I am also from KY but have been transplanted to Nashville. It was a =
pleasure
gathering with all of you FBO'ers that were there....and for those that
weren't...well you really missed a great show!
