Humanity and Youth....

Hello to everyone:

Yes, there will be some Zep content in my post (shocking, isn't it?), but first I
wanted to make a few comment on some posts from the last digest:

>From the man who has made me laugh hysterically on more than one occasion,
Bill M (otherwise known as Percy):

>>Talk about the cyber-theater of the absurd. I can't decide what the best part of
this whole thingis: Dave's drunken post. His apology. The rebuttals.
His second apology. The slew of personal attacks he's received,
including comments about his family (!). The public posts questioning
his manhood and sanity. Tom and Shar's private messages supporting
the drunken poster. David's public thanks.<<

Man, when you put it that way, Bill, it sounds like a week's worth of "General
Hospital"! Actually, this whole thing was a elaborate plan of mine
to steer conversation away from the ongoing talk about the current
Page/Plant tour. A drunken rage seemed like the best way to turn
everyone's attention away from music.

That's a joke folks..no private emails, please.

>> It's all great stuff, folks. Adds weight to my misanthropic perspective that
the world is full of morons and the dumbing down of society continues
merrily on. In other words, get a life people! On second thought,
don't. You're much more entertaining this way.<<

And I stand among those morons. Actually, I have felt just as shitty about
the supportive emails as I have about the ugly emails. I mean, I
thank everyone who has sent a kind email to me, but I'm not very
proud of what I did and I don't feel I deserve any supportive words.

The fact is, there is a lot of people on this list who have incredibly compassionate
hearts and great deal of humanity..

One of those people is Tom B. Since his return, the quality of this list has
improved dramatically. He and I are much alike because we speak
about Zeppelin from our passion of the music (and a lot of you do,
too). His expressive written words on "Ten Years Gone" was inspiring
to me. His thoughts put to words are always eloquently stated and
the impact of his writing goes deep because it's honest and
passionate. This is the real essence and importance of this mailing
list! Guys like Tom raise the purpose of FBO to greater heights.
His and Bill's return to regular posting have pumped a lot of life
back into the list.

And I wanted to say publicly to Tom (as I have privately) that his
compassionate words to me in the last digest were greatly
appreciated. Despite what some members might think, not every
genuine feeling expressed on this list has some kind of disingenuous
ulterior motive attached. Since when did honesty and kindness become
so loathed on this list? It's disturbing to me that I received
countless emails about that unfortunate post on Saturday (which took
absolutely no thought at all, believe me) and only a sparse few when
I actually post something meaningful. I'm sure many on the list
understand what I mean. Why are we all so friggin' cynical? Isn't
that for old folks like me?

Anyway, I promised some Zep content:

My stepson is on vacation with his father's family in California. He took
"Led Zeppelin IV" along with him. He called me yesterday, laughing.

"I've been listening over and over again to Led Zeppelin IV," he said happily.

He couldn't see my smile, but my radiant voice was expressive enough. "Really,
then you ought to know all the riffs by now."

"Uh-huh. I played it so much, my Uncle screamed at me to shut it
off! 'SHUT IT OFF! SHUT IT OFF!'" he mimicked his Uncle.

To me, there's nothing more satisfying than torturing non-Zep fans--especially
when the "torturee" is my 10-year-old stepson! Can you believe it?
Gone are the Metallica CDs--replaced by the music of a band that
played almost twenty years before my stepson was even born.

Let's face it: Led Zeppelin and The Three Stooges are the only
things in this life on earth that are eternal!

The heck with converting my wife. Time to concentrate on the youth in my
life. My wife.well, she'll never understand like Eric does..

Take it easy, folks..

David
