Cons & Musicianship

I think the overriding blemish on this wonderful tour is the disrespecting of
Jonesy. I was really unhappy with NQ being played. I mean, why don't they play
Moby Dick too? I don't know what the hostility is all about, but it's been
apparent from the No Quarter tour (how could they name it that?) and it's only
getting worse. Does anyone know why Jonesy is The Unmentionable One to P/P?
It sucks for a number of reasons, among those the quality of the music is not
enhanced by C Jones/keyboard guy droning along. Jonesy is as much a living
legend and inspiration on the bass as Percy and Pagey are on vocals and
guitar. Of course, nobody outside of musicians cares about bassists, but I
really miss JPJ on Percy's right. Anybody who wonders what difference a
bassist makes should throw on Heartbreaker from Berkeley 71 or BBC Sessions
and compare the bass lines and overall intensity to the current versions. Or
Black Dog etc etc. Hell, JPJ had the guts and imagination to do an album
with Diamanda Galas, tour with just bass, drums and vocals. Could C Jones do
that? I don't think so. It's unfair to C Jones to make these comparisons,
but then again living legend JPJ is on the bench while two other guys try to
take his place in the field and can't fill his socks, let alone his shoes.
It's a damn shame is what it is. (sigh) Anyway, anybody know when Jonesy's
new album is coming out?
