Re: 10 Shows Newbies Need

Well, since this is a top ten (and not 50) list, I feel much more
qualified to debate........

>1. June 21, 1977 The Forum

Not a doubt, the second show any fan should get.

>2. June 25, 1972 The Forum
>3. May 19, 1973 Ft. Worth

2 fine shows.

>4. August 31, 1969 Texas Pop Festival

The third boot any newbie should get. Absolutely unbelievable sound.

>5. April 26, 1969 Winterland Ballroom

I prefer the 27th.

>6. April 28, 1977 Richfield Coliseum

Get the 27th instead. It should be the first boot any newbie should get.
(Note I _agree_ the 28th is a better show, so its not _that_ argument
again). The 27th is the best sound your ever gonna find, and its only an
average night. After yoiu listen to this show, you will understand the
brilliance of Eddie and Texas Pop festival. This show proves Zep was
still darn good on their off nights, and killer on thier on nights.

>7. September 2, 1970 Oakland Coliseum

I'd go for 9-4-70. For some reason the performance gets slammed a bit on
this list, but its still above average. Its worth it for the rarities
such as Out On the Tiles and Blueberry Hill.

>8. August 21, 1971 The Forum
>9. September 29, 1971 Osaka, Japan

Two great shows, they belong on any top ten list.

>10. February 12, 1975 Madison Square Garden

This is also my favorite 75 show. But I would still recommend 5-24-75
Earls Court ahead of it, mostly for the sound. 2-12 is good, but 5-24 is
pristine.

As you can see I would prefer the better sounding boots for newbies.
After they get that good sounging taste, then let then wet thier
appetities with a few poorer sounding gems. They have to learn to
appreciate the brilliance of a bad SQ show. Hell, every newbie will (most
likely) come to appreciate perhaps the worst sounding Zep tape, and
perhaps theior hootest performance, Bath 71.

There you have it,
