Hello FBO...
Ragner in reponse:
>>But WIC is much more enduring than CWM. How many times were you
able to listen to the song? The slow guitar solo on the Morello mix
is a strong contenstant for the worst-guitar-solo-ever-award. It's
even worse than Hot Dog! The single's cover "art" isn't exactly awe
inspiring either.<<
Actually, I love CWM--and not, of course, because of Drag Daddy--I
mean, Puff Daddy. The "Kashmir" riff is as effective as it was when
PG was released (And whoever it was who named PG as their least
favorite Led Zeppelin album ought to have a labotomy!). And I
thought the slow guitar solo in CWM was vintage Page--Light and
Shade--mix notwithstanding. I can't say much for Puff Daddy's
efforts in the song, but I like the drummer and the overall energy of
this song. In my opinion, CWM is one the best Rap song ever to grace
the music world.
>>That shouldn't be hard. Are there any 1977 tapes which performing
wise are worse than Destroyer? And how did the radio station get the
permission to broadcast the concert anyway?<<
Are you asking if there are worse 1977 performances--sure, but there
are also a dozen better than "Destroyer". Any of the LA show would
suffice, 5/30/77 is also a very strong last night in Landover,
Maryland.
I don't know how they got permission to play it, but if they could
air this concert, why not air a better one?
>>Why would Bonham and Jones turn back time if Bonham were alive
today?<<
I suppose I was speaking with dreamy eyes, wondering what could have
been if these two musicians would have been part of what's going on
now.
>> Zeppelin would probably have broken up in 1982. They would have
performed a terrible reunion show at Live Aid, where Bonham would've
been so drunk that Collins would have sounded good.<<
All conjecture. Who knows what would have happened. People do grow
up eventually. Page straightened himself out, so I'm certain Bonham
would have found a way, too.
>>And in the early nineties they would start performing pathetic,
regular reunion tours which would have been the ultimate dinosaur
rock shows.<<
Sort of like what P/P are doing right now, wouldn't you say--except
for the pathetic part, of course. As they are proving, no Led
Zeppelin song will ever walk with the dinosaurs.
>>Or..... They would've stayed together and made new music and never
looked back. Stopped performing Stairway, but they would probably
never have been able to recreate 9/29/71..... <<
Again, all conjecture. You're making assumptions that the greatest
rock and roll band ever to play music would suddenly become a
mediocre musical machine. I don't agree entirely. Yes, ITTOD was
not one of their strongest efforts, but who knows what might have
inspired them to go on to create an album like PG. Yes, Page and
Bonham were lost souls in 1980, but who's to say that they would not
eventually overcome and add more depth and character to their music.
>>But that's why we have boots and your great concert reviews. Enjoy
it for what it's worth.<<
Exactly what is the current tour worth to me? I still can find
greater enjoyment listening to performances of these songs back in
Zeppelin's glory days. As good as P/P are performing these days, I
personally don't need to hear them.
>>Next year we'll start talking only Zep again<<
On this list? You're kidding, right?
>>and the 1998 tour and WIC will (unfortunately) be forgotten by
anyone who didn't attend a show.<<
Forgetting WIC is no loss...I still argue that it is one of the
weakest creative efforts ever given by Page and Plant....
