Someone mentioned getting a picture disc version of the "Destroyer"
bootleg....
Someone else mentioned a picture disc of "Duckwalks & Lasers" being
inferior to the vinyl version...
Remember bootleg pals.... picture discs from the 70s ALWAYS sounded
horrible... in fact, picture discs became a fad and many rock LPs were
made into PDs (Styx "Pieces Of 8" and Heart "Magazine" are a couple I
remember).
These picture discs were legit items... and, thus, the record company
put warning labels on these discs that the sound quantity would be
inferior to a normal LP and these were "collector's items"
Don't ever purchase a picture disc if you intend to listen to the
music in the grooves... it's to look at, only....
Colored vinyl, on the other hand, is a bit trickier... I've seen legit
LPs on colored vinyl carrying similar "warning labels" about the sound
quality.
But... author Clifton Heylin in his book "Bootleg"... writes that many
of the early 70s TMOQ bootlegs utilized color vinyl not only for the
novelty but because color vinyl (then) guaranteed VIRGIN vinyl.
