First, I'd like to thank everyone involved in making Zepfest a
success. Unfortunately my wife and I both came down with killer
bronchitus which made the trip exhausting more than exhilerating.
We were forced to keep the socializing to a minimum and so I
didn't meet half as many of the Traveling Ledheads as I would have
wanted. Wait till next time!
Here are the highlights from Friday's Philly show:
1. The most animated Jimmy Page I' ve seen. He was boppin' all
over the place and was really energetic.
2. Headbanging for the 90's-- three guys directly behind the stage
hopping about a foot off the floor in unison to the beat during
Heartbreaker.
3. Plantation no.1: before Gallows Pole- "This song was written
about 250 years ago- right before we started working together."
4. Plantation no.2: introducing Michael and Charlie- "And please
give a warm welcome to the hardest working rhythm section in
show business---show business!!!??--shit!"
5. Robert coming incredibly close to hitting all the highs in "Going
to California" and the girls who started giggling behind me when he
started singing "it's hard".
6. The incredible unchanging setlist- had a piece of "I Can't Quit
You Babe" as the 'slow' section of "How Many More Times".
7. Jimmy's fantastic playing in "How Many More Times", including
with the Bow, may have transcended ANY previous performance.
8. "Whole Lotta Love" whoops no. 1- Jimmy forgot to hit the button
on the autotune guitar between "Most High" and "WWL" and he
had to start over; whoops no. 2- the theremin wouldn't work so after
some fuss he proceeded to stomp on over in front of the drums and
then blew us all away with the best solo of the evening.
9. Miracles Do Happen Dept: They actually came back for 2
encores!!! First "Black Dog" and "Rock and Roll" and then back to
do "Thank You".
I'll post more when I wake up.
