I read parts of the Book for this movie
and after Brad's sister goes out with the 
stereo guy, she goes home and phones the radio
station to Request "stairway to heaven"
My guess is chicks in the 80's listened to Rush/Journey/Ratt
Fast times is 82' so it is postzep era.
