IMO - the Jedi Master of minimalist drumming would have to be Buddy
Rich, who could put a beat into a dead heart. In the rock genre,
Charlie Watts remains the (grand)father of all later-generation
minimalist drummers, holding down some of the best rhythm ever
recorded. But I'll concede that Stewart is ONE OF the best...

ps. If you like drumming (esp big band style), try giving "Burning for
Buddy" (vols. I and II) a spin. They were produced by Neil Peart
(Rush drummer), and performed by many of music's greatest drummers
(sorry, I don't think Stu was in on the sessions...)
