A much belated review of P/P, Melbourne 29/2/96. The memory is hazy but
I'll do my best. We had reasonable seats, about 20 rows back in the
stalls. Check out the Australia Open Tennis finals this weekend for a
look at the venue. The tension built by the Eastern intro tape was
awesome. I was in shock as the guys blasted on stage with the Wanton
Song. Hearing songs like Ramble On and Bring It On Home just blew me
away. What really floored me though was when a guy in our group went
out for a piss during the Heartbreaker solo. Too much bourbon and cola
before the show...but a good Led Zeppelin drink to prepare. The parade
of Page's guitars during the gig put as in a state of awe and
reverence...this was a truly great musical event. I can't give a really
objective review as I was just rapt to be there. I still thought that
Plant's voice was OK, considering that the tour was almost over. Black
Dog and Rock and Roll seemed to be mainly in the high register -
sensational. Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Rain Song, TSRTS were all
highlights. We wanted more. They could have gone for hours and it
wouldn't be enough.
Now comes the nervous wait for tour announcements...all the Australian
fans will be hoping "Far East" means Australia as well.
