Trade laws and Plant "whore"

Hiya Badgeholders,

I 've been lurking this list for about two months and THIS is my
inagural post. The whole tape trade scare couldn't have come at a worse
time... I didn't even know tape trading existed until I joined this
list... I've been paying out the ass to buy the bootleg CD's for six
years!!!

Anyway, I think this "scare" has gotten way out of hand. As has been
mentioned on the list by several others, there are several arguments
which could be used in defense. From the argument that (at least in our
case) the artists don't care, the fact that the Courts would have to
prove we traders made a profit (YES, the burden of proof is on THEM lets
not forget), the fact that any judge with any shred of common sense
would throw out a case dealing with such a small infraction as trading,
and if the trial did go to court, the simple act of appealing to the
"dull witted" jury pool that we traders are preserving pop music history
for future generations would likely be simple enough. Also, what about
the Media frenzy tape traders could conjure up if the shit really hit
the fan. If all the other bands out there have a tenth of the support
Zeppelin gets I believe we could cause some headaches for the
politicians that think tape trading is such a sin. So, IMHO we traders
are really small potatos. I suspect that the law is really targeted for
the CD bootleggers who likely make a sweet profit.

I want to add that I'm not against the CD bootleggers, I can't thank
them enough for the hours and hours of enjoyment I have gotten from
their products. I understand the risk the CD bootleggers are taking and
don't mind them being paid for that risk. I can understand also why the
RIAA would be upset at the amount of compensation the bootleggers
recieve. These are the BIG potatos the RIAA are after.

Finally, I want to have my say about the discussion a few weeks back
about Page being Plant's whore. I don't agree with this at all. Jimmy
has wanted to ge back with Robert for years and Plant just would not go
for it. I think Jimmy finally got tired of waiting for Plant (hell, I
think he was more than patient) and decided he would try working with
someone who tries to sound like Plant. Then and only then did Robert
decide the time was right... Page is as sly as the Led Wallet of old.
I think Page played Robert right into his hand... Thanks Jimmy, sounds
great!!

I for one will continue to trade without pause.

Ramble On,

Tim
