Scott,
I too have been trying research Jimmy's amp setup (mainly his live setup.
During 73 on after I think Jimy was sending his guitar input through a "phase
90" then through his wha wha (vox, I believe) then to a single "echoplex"
(which was modified, using the plackback footswitch jack for a second output.
This enabled him to send his guitar signal through his two stage amps
(Marshall 100wt Super Leads). Then I believe he had two 4X12 cabs hooked up
to each head (all Marshalls). If you notice he has three Marshall 4X12's on
his side of the stage and there is one on Jonesy's side. Maybee as a guitar
monitor for Jones?
That would leave the two Orange 4X12 cabs for his theremin, His theremin was
run direct into a Echoplex and straight into a head Orange/Marshall).
He then had another round footswitch that I believe just turned his echoplex
on and off.
For distortion...when he was using his Telecaster he would use a Sola Sound
Tone Bender (this made his Tele sound like Gibson). I have one of these and
it doesn't seem to work so well with my Les Paul. I don't think Jimmy used a
distortion pedal, instead I think his Marshalls were modified for sound.
Also it been said that Jimmy used a Eventide Harmonizer H969. He may have
but it couldn't have been before 1977. Thats when they started making them.
Anyone have any other ideas.
