I heard in an interview some years ago on a radio program (and I have no
idea which it was) but Jimmy Page got the idea for Hot Dog from Roy Clark of
Hee-Haw fame.  Page and Clark were talking about guitar playing and Clark
was joking with Page that anyone could play rock and roll but could Page
play country?  Hot Dog was Jimmy Page's answer to Roy Clark's challenge and
Clark admitted that Page pulled it off.

Hot Dog is a great tune, if nothing else for the novelty of the thing.  It
just shows the range of the greatest band in the world!!
