Re: Micheal Hutchins

Larry,

Before we were taken over four months ago by a new GM we played a mix of
everything in the rock genre, including R.E.M. and U2, focused a lot on the
Seattle sound and stuff that was exceptional but hidden from most of the
public, most notably the Screaming Trees. Lots of Pearl Jam, Nirvana,
Soundgarden, Alice In Chains mixed with all the classic rock greats as well
as those cuts you never hear on radio. We played 95% of the Zeppelin
catalog, which of course I loved. We also hit a lot on the newer bands like
the Wallflowers and even a lot of the stuff I personally considered to
"weep" like Spacehog, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies Etc. These were the bands
that the music corporation tried to shove down our program directors throat
and in defense of him sometimes you have to keep the record companies happy.
We also played a lot of the harder edged stuff like Metallica, Megadeth,
Pantera, Primus etc. We were a bit fashioned like the big rock station out
of Seattle, KISW, then comes along the new GM and decides that our target
audience was 12-28 with the type of music we were playing and we were losing
a lot of our advertising to car dealerships and insurance companies because
their clientel was mainly 35-death, so we were forced to change to a classic
rock format. Dont get me wrong my preference in music and my background is
strongest in classic rock but I enjoy some of the newer stuff and a lot of
the Seattle stuff that came out in the past years, it really was a great
scene though its died down. So now we play classic rock and the only new
stuff we add is if a classic artist comes out with new material like "The
Girl I Love". We do cover a wide spectrum though, before we never played
any Beatles and now we have about 70 titles we spin so that is a bit
refreshing and we play every Zep song now, even "Hats Off." So now that the
range is limited its still not bad but it could be a little better. And
that's the low down on 104.7 The X, Rock And Roll Classix!

Rock on

Darwin
