Wow, I really pissed you off! Please calm down, I meant nothing of the
sort! It is obvious that I worded my post very badly because I've had a
couple of private posts along the same lines, so it was completely
misunderstood. The only points I really wanted to make were simple-those
two tracks on symphonic zep sound extremely similar to the lucifer
rising soundtrack (with the addition of some eastern sounds), at least
to me, and I was curious if anyone else thought so too. The other point
was really just musing that the Pat Robertson's of the world would no
doubt find this album one to be burned at the stake! That did not mean
that I personally agree with that view in any way, quite the contrary!
> I don't understand how this leads you to conclude Page had anything to do with it. Is his name
listed on the credits as having done or inspired the artwork?
No. He is thanked in the credits, and elsewhere in the liner notes Jaz
talks about his friendship with Page and their shared "schools of
thought". Beyond that it was really just my perception that the artwork
was more "about" Page, even though Robert wrote the lyrics to Stairway.
I can't really explain that better, except to say that I have met Pagey
and feel comfortable that I have an ok understanding of his interests
and belief systems (though like us all his change and grow with time),
and for some reason the artwork just reminded me of him (a little like
smelling a particular perfume or cologne, and instantly remembering
someone who wore that smell).
> Have you ever looked at Coleman's lyrics? Somehow I doubt it.
Yes I have, but I am not a Killing Joke fan, though I like what Jaz has
done with this album.
>It seems to me that people should make the effort to find out for themselves and do some
independent thinking instead of simply reading and believing in tabloids. Why does having
an interest in philosophy necessarily mean a person is satanic?
Agreed. I am not in the habit of being a lame brain who believes
everything I read. I have been a student of philosophy, religion, the
occult, the esoteric, paganism, etc., all of my life, so I have the
intelligence not to label anyone. I was only saying that the tabloids
had labeled Jaz a satanist, which I assumed people would understand as
meaning 'it must be taken with a grain of salt'.
As I mentioned, Page was actively working on a project with Coleman a
few years back, and therefore I believe it is reasonble to ponder the
possibility that he did more than give the ok on the project. I also
have to say that if you believe that people's contributions are always
fully credited (if at all!) on albums then you haven't been around the
music business much.
Anyway, I am sorry that my post was so badly misunderstood and raised
such hackles. I haven't been around on the list long, but I wonder if
possibly ,between this and the old list, that the subject of Stairway
backwards, Page's interest in the occult, and the whole 'satan' theme
may have been discussed and argued to death? If so, my post may have
touched a nerve that way, so I won't post on that subject again!
