1. I am so much more fired up by the Page/Plant news than the ho-hum BBC
release it's not even funny. 13 songs! 55 minutes! Wow, that's an average
of 4-5 minutes per tune! Unless there are a few epics on there and some
really short ones. Sounds like my lovemaking history, nyuk, nyuk.
Everything about it rocks! And is really weird! Radiohead producer fired.
Steve Albini (!) brought in to man the controls. Abbey Lane studios? What
the freak? I love it. Bring it on!!
2. Anyone out there agree with me that one of the more interesting and
successful things done by Page/Plant was the version of "I Can't Quit You"
waaaay back in the beginning at the Korner tribute? Holy run-on sentence!
Shame it never turned up again. Speaking of which...
3. One of the great tragedies of the Page/Plant tour, in my opinion, was
the decision to forego the revamped T-Rex'd version of Black Dog for the
traditional, read that "boring," and safe version from LZ IV. I love the
new version performed during the Denton show and the American Music Awards.
The latter appearance, in my opinion, was also the first and only time that
Page/Plant or Led Zeppelin for that matter, didn't choke on it when they
had a captive worldwide audience. Every other opportunity (Band Aid,
Atlantic Records, etc.) was a disaster!
4. If you like "Something Else" from the BBC set, get your hands on a speed
corrected version of that tune from the Royal Albert Hall 1970 gig. It
kicks everything's ass.
5. Last night I dreamed I was playing an organ grinder outside a cafe in
Marrakesh. Pouya, dressed up like a monkey in his little harem suit
complete with fez, danced to the tune of Kashmir and collected coins from
the crowd. Suddenly, everyone turned to the front door of the cafe to watch
Madani and her entourage exit and leap one by one onto the backs of waiting
camels. When she turned her beguiling gaze towards me and fluttered her
eyelashes from behind a wispy black veil, I melted like a popsicle in the
desert sun. All will be revealed...
Love,
Billy
