Hey Gang,
Some of the recent posts about when Plant lost his voice,
got me to thinking about what shows I am into right now.
So here are my top five shows that are getting lots of
airplay on my walkman during my commute at the moment (In no
particular order of preference).
1. 9/23/71 Reflections from a Dream. Great enthusiasm from
the Japanese audience, although perhaps a little too much
during WLL. Maybe Jimmy could've borrowed some of the crowd
noise from this show and put some of it onto the BBC discs.
2. 9/6/71 Boston - I play this one to wake on my ride in the
morning!
3. 6/22/72 Berdu - can Page play any faster(and clean too!)
during the Walters Walk segment of Dazed during this show?
4. 4/9/70 Tampa - Great HMMT medley and a good show nobody
hardly ever mentions.
5. 11/16/71 Ipswich - a nice recording(most of it) in a
small venue. A respectful audience, although it seems like
the audience is too busy enjoying their pints of 'Old
Peculiar' and don't put their hands together and show their
full appreciation until after Dazed. However, at least they
don't interfere with the recording a la 9/3/71 ("Sit the
#*@! down!)
Which brings me to respond to thread of shows that people
wish they could see if they could go back in time.
I know Bath is always a popular choice, but I would pick
either the June 14 or 15, 1972 show. Whichever one is
claimed to be that 4 1/2 hrs of madness! Hey Mr. Prox., you
were at one these weren't you, which one was it?
Anyway, my point being, even after Bonzo's 1/2hr Moby Dick
you still have 4hrs of solid show. Plant is still in full
voice. Page is flying up and down the neck and Jonsey and
Bonzo are rock solid. Plus the '72 US tour represents, to
me, the last time the band showed real spontaneity in their
setlist (and I don't mean in their playing). How can you not
smile when you hear the band jump into "Louie, Louie" from
6/25/72.
And, Oh yeah, I would be sure to bring a DAT recorder with
enough tape to capture the whole thing!
