metallica on zep

in this month's Metallica fan club magazine So What! a fan asked this
question to the members of Metallica:Do you guys like Led Zeppelin? If so,
how has Led Zeppelin had an effect on you?

Heres what the band members have to say:
James:Absolutely.Exploration of different sounds and feels.Especially Page's
sounds
Jason:It would be safe to say that Zeppelin is one of our top bands. I think
that we all have great respect for each individual performer and his
capabilities. The influence from their music is ongoing
Kirk:Jimmy Page is a drug survivor. We aspire to that.

Jason also has a quote in Led Zeppelin:The Definitive Biography which reads:
'The best thing one can say about Zeppelin's music is that it's just timeless
stuff. It's always so good and holds up to anything that comes out now. They
definitely set a standard. It was such a unique thing that so many have tried
to copy over the years, and there's no person that can pull it off. There's
just no way.

'If it wasn't for them and especially John Paul Jones, I wouldn't have the
kind of weirdo style that I've developed. Jonesy has inspired me profoundly,
and he still does. He always has done, for however many, many years I've been
listening to them.

'You can still go back and listen to 'Immigrant Song' or anything that's got
a cool, heavy heavy groove to it. Or anything off the second album. It just
goes on and on and on'

There ya go
