I took a video class for two years, and we had to memorize the laws of
making videos, and one of them was that song clips under 30 seconds may be
used for non-commercial purposes without permission from the author as
long as the performers and writers are given credit. If it is for a
commercial purpose or is more then 30 seconds long permission must be
obtained, even if it is a non-profit video. However, Mr. Lund pointed out
that they wouldn;t be going after school students that use songs in school
videos, however, he would take poiints off if we broke the copyright laws.
